FTSE flirts with 5,000 mark

The FTSE 100 Index is a fraction under the 5,000 mark after adding about 17 points to 4997.80 points this morning, led by Reuters Group.

The news services firm has advanced 8.75p to 402p, after it completed its acquisition of financial information firm, Moneyline Telerate, for $145m in cash and its 14% interest in Savvis. Diageo has climbed 15p to 802.50p, after analysts raised its stock rating. Diageo agreed to purchase Bushmills whiskey from France's Pernod Ricard SA. Shire Pharmaceuticals is also 10p higher to 589.50p, after analysts rated its shares ‘buy’. On the losing end, United Utilities 'A' shares have shed as much as 163.25p or 32.26% to 342.75p this morning, following yesterday's confirmation of the 165p pri...
