In the UK the FTSE 100 Index has closed 8.50 points higher to 5290.80 at its close a short while ago, led by Amvescap.
The mutual fund company has picked up 14.25p to 427p and is reported to be the subjecct of a takeover bid by Canada's CI Fund Management which, according to Sunday papers, has appointed investment banking and legal advisers for the deal. British Land Industry advanced 24p to 863.5p, after reports its director, Nick Ritblat will quit. Communications firm Cable & Wireless, marched 2.75p higher to 162p. On the losing end Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group shed 2.5p to 88.25p, after Sunday papers reported General Motors as seeking in excess of $1bn in damages in its legal action over as...
