Disposable income averages £500 per month - Clerical Medical

The average British adult has around £500 in disposable income every month once they have paid basic living costs, such as tax, mortgage or rent and bills but are still not saving for the future, according to a survey commissioned by Clerical Medical.

Around 8,000 people earning between £7,000 and £50,000 were questioned across the UK to find out how much they earned, their associated living costs and how much consumers might have left to “put aside for a rainy day”. Despite what appears to be a high average disposable income of £538.41 each month, most consumers have very little left at the end of the month, suggests the study (shown below), because they prefer to spend it on holidays and socialising.
