In the UK, the FTSE 100 Index closed virtually flat today to end the day at 5057.2 points.
Steel producer Corus leads the drop, shedding 2p to 60p after the company announced a £130m restructuring plan, putting more than 400 jobs but upgrading its largest steelmaking plants at Scunthorpe, so it can manufacture new industry-based goods. Cairn Energy, meanwhile, advanced a further 50p or 4.5% to £11.80, adding to yesterday’s gain of 64p or 6%, after analysts increased its share status to ‘buy’.
