The FTSE 100 Index has started solidly this morning, advancing 21.30 points to 4919.80, led by Corus.
The steelmaker is up 1p to 42.75, along with heating and plumbing parts wholesaler Wolseley, up 27p to £11.01. Foodservices company Compass Group has shed as much as 14.50p or 6% to 221.50p, after it announced a 7.8% fall in underlying profit. The firm has also agreed to offload a 75% stake in the North American bakery cafe chain, Au Bon Pain. In Tokyo the Nikkei 225 index finally halted its seven-day losing streak, adding 0.1% to 10,835.41 at its close early this morning. Cosmo Oil has gained 9.6% to 364 yen, leading the Japanese benchmark after reporting it will pay an 8 yen dividend ...
