FTSE back on track towards 5,000

The FTSE 100 index has clawed back its two-day losing streak, by advancing around 24 points to 4995.8 points this morning.

Man Group leads the benchmark, surging 64p or 5% to £12.87, after it reported a 10% increase on its fiscal full-year net income to $608m. Cable and Wireless has also profited, adding 4p to 133.25p, along with Intercontinental Hotel Group which is up 16p to 662p. Barclays, meanwhile, leads the drop, down 22.5p to 527.5p, after it reported the consumer bank's revenue to be ‘broadly flat’ in the first quarter. A host of other lenders including Lloyds TSB, HBOS and Bank of Scotland have also lost around 2% off the value of their shares this morning. Pest-control firm Rentokil, has declined...
