The FTSE 100 Index has performed steadily today, gaining 18.30 to 4,824.30 after a disappointing day yesterday.
British Airways, Europe's second-largest airline, picked up 11.50p, or 5%, to 242.5p after reporting a 3.2% in passenger traffic during December compared with the same month in 2003. Gains came in shorthaul flights and travel to the Middle East and Africa. Rolls-Royce added 8p to 251p after analysts upgraded the company’s stock. Legal & General lifted 3.50p to 116.25p, while Friends Provident was up 4p to 163p. Imperial Chemical Industries led the fall, shedding 4.25p to 231p.
