US market fall hits FTSE

In the UK, the FTSE 100 index has fallen sharply this morning, losing 80 points to 4,811 points in a delayed reaction to its counterpart index in the US.

Wolseley Group, distributor of heating and plumbing has shed 54p to £10.66. Steel firm Corus has declined 2.25p to 48.25p. In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index shed 3.8% to 10,938.44 at its close early Saturday morning, its biggest fall in four months. Sony dropping 5% to 3,840 yen leads the Japanese benchmark, after manufacturing and consumer sentiment reports reveal the US economy is slowing. Sony receives more than a quarter of its sales from the US, while analysts also cut its forecast on the firm’s earnings outlook. Automaker Honda also dropped 3.9% to 5,160 yen. And in the US o...
