FTSE down on day

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index closed out the weak down 20.60 points at 4,832.80 points, paced by suger maker Tate & Lyle.

The food ingredients company lost 8.50p to 445p, while leisure business Whitbread, also ended down 16p at 878.50p. Leading firms on the other end of the scale include investment management firm Amvescap, picking up 14.50p or 4.6% to 328.75p. Reckitt Benckiser, the worlds larget maker of household cleaning products, skyrocketed 42p to 1,582p on the news of competitor P&G’s acquisition plans for shaving products giant Gillette. In the US the Dow Jones Industrial Average index has again leaked points in morning trading, led down by Procter & Gamble's announced £30bn buyout of Gillette. ...
