Shanghai copper keeps FTSE rising

The FTSE 100 Index has risen 0.4% to 5706.5 this morning, led by BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto Group after copper futures in Shanghai rose to a record.

BHP Billiton has risen 1.7% to 979.5p, Rio Tinto has gained 0.9% to a record of 2,727p and Kazakhmys, a Kazakh copper producer, has advanced 3.7% to 838.5p. Copper futures in Shanghai have risen to a record on concern that a strike this week in Chile will limit supplies of the metal used in wiring and plumbing. Gas and oil producer BG Group has also increased 0.3% to 596.5p after Morgan Stanley raised the company's share-price forecast 25% to 650p. Meanwhile, BowLeven, which explores for oil and gas offshore Cameroon, has slumped 48% to 156p, a record low. The company says it has suspen...
