The Department for Work and Pensions has apologised ‘unreservedly' for its mistake in sending out 26,000 letters details pension rights to the wrong people.
A spokesman for the DWP says it realised its mistake last Wednesday and immediately took steps to stop any more letters being sent out and started a full investigation into what had gone wrong. The letters, which are sent out every year to people who have uprated pensions, were apparently an information notice to tell people how much pension they would be entitled to next year, however around 26,000 letters were accidentally paced in the same envelope as a different letter and posted to the wrong people.
