FTSE loses a fraction

The FTSE 100 Index declined a fraction at its close, losing 3.60 points to 5046.80 points, led by British Airways.

The airline company has lost 6.25p to 274.50p due to increasing oil prices. Crude-oil for July delivery is at $55.55 barrel in New York, its highest level since April. Shire Pharmaceuticals Group has shed 12.50p to 596p. Tesco meanwhile is also down 4.50p to 312.50p. At the other end of the table, telecommunication firm Cable & Wireless advanced 2.25p to 142p, after analysts raised its stock rating, while mobile incumbent O2 adding 2p to 127.25p.
