Following yesterday's budget, the Building Societies Association has said it wants further clarity on a definition of "unclaimed assets" as the issue again was raised by chancellor Gordon Brown as a methord to fund youth activities across the country.
The idea was first raised in last year’s Pre-Budget Report, but has been further linked with a “challenge fund” outlined by Brown, which would act as the provider of cash to reward young people proposing projects for youth and community facilities. The Treasury is also to set up an Office for the Voluntary Sector, which will advise on issues such as gift aid and conduct consultations with the voluntary sector.
