In the UK the FTSE climbed 17.50 points to 5287.80 shortly before its close, led by AstraZeneca.
The Pharmaceuticals firm added 95p or 4%, to 2575p, after raising its guidance for full-year earnings by 17% as a result of a 50% increase in quarterly profit, while analysts raised its stock rating. British American Tobacco is also 39p higher to 1135p, after posting a 37% increase in its quarterly earnings. The shares in Royal Dutch Shell have climbed 51p to 1810p for its "B" ordinary shares, with it’s a shares climbing 45p to 1753p, amid rising crude oil prices. On the losing end, engine maker Rolls Royce has shed 7.5p to 334.5p. In the US the Dow Jones has shed 30 points to 10676...
