Phoenix in 'advanced' talks to acquire Abbey Life

Confirmed speculation in statement

Phoenix has confirmed it is in "advanced" talks with Deutsche Bank about a possible acquisition of its closed life company Abbey Life.

The consolidator already said in its interim results on 25 August it was exploring further acquisition opportunities in the closed UK life sector.  It has now confirmed speculation it is evaluating a potential deal for Abbey Life. In a statement on the stock exchange it said: "Phoenix notes recent media speculation regarding a possible acquisition of Abbey Life Assurance Company and confirms that it is evaluating a potential transaction.
