Santander Asset Management has recruited four managers in a bid to fortify its UK equity team.
SAM has hired Richard Moore from Old Mutual, Hak Salih from M&G, Peter McLoughlin from Insight Investment Managers, and Stephen Payne from Corporate Synergy.
In addition, the asset management arm of Santander has brought over Fernando Gasca from its Santander Spain operation.
The team, led by chief investment officer John Bearman who was hired last year, currently manages portfolios in excess of £6.6bn.
Santander says the appointments strengthen the company’s core UK asset management expertise, and aligns it with Santander’s global asset management model.
Richard Moore was previously head of large caps and manager of the UK select equity fund and the UK select large cap fund at Old Mutual.
He will be helped by Peter McLoughlin, formerly equity analyst at Corporate Synergy (now Blue Oar Securities), where he focused on high-yield mid and small cap UK equities, housing stocks and AIM.
Hak Salih joins after a seven-year stint at M&G where he held responsibility for managing the firm’s £300m income fund. He will manage the equity income portfolios at Santander’s UK equities team.
Stephen Payne brings more than 10 years experience in fund management, including stints at Framlington, Hill Samuel Asset Management, Teachers Investment Management and Abbey Life. At Santander, he will support the management of equity income portfolios for the UK equities team.
Fernando Gasca joins from Santander Spain, where he was private banking portfolio manager. Prior to that, he worked as portfolio manager at HSBC London, Credit Commercial de France and Ava Asesores de Valores.
John Bearman, chief investment officer at Santander, says: “These key appointments give Santander Asset Management UK a powerful and experienced fund management team covering core areas of UK equity and equity income fund management.
“Their track record of delivering superior returns to investors and effectively marketing their funds will prove invaluable.”
The fund manager recently relaunched under its parent company’s Santander brand after years under the Abbey name.
