'Fewer over-50s' to seek professional advice on retirement

Fewer over-50s plan to seek professional financial advice than the age group did one year ago, according to a study undertaken by Retirement Advantage.

Of the 1,003 over-50s polled by the provider in its annual research, around a third (31%) said they planned to consult a financial adviser with regard to their retirement options - a "stark fall" on the 42% who said they would in its 2017 study. Costs were the biggest driver pushing those approaching retirement away from seeking professional advice, this year's survey suggested. Retirement Advantage also found almost half (46%) of over-50s use the government's guidance service Pension Wise, which it said was respondents' most popular source of information.
