Government shared ownership plans not enough

The government yesterday announced its shared equity home ownership plans claiming it intends to give more people than ever the opportunity to buy their first property.

But reaction from the mortgage industry has been mixed as several commentators suggest the government’s plans do not go far enough to tackle the problem of a lack of affordable housing. John Prescott and Gordon Brown have confirmed English Partnerships, the government’s regeneration body, has purchase nearly 100 surplus NHS sites in order to supply more affordable homes.
