Levy to rise by £4.6m next year, says Ombudsman

Unless the annual levy advisers pay to the Financial Ombudsman Service increases, case fees will have to rise from £360 to about £400, according to the FOS's budget for 2006.

This is because, in its report published yesterday, the FOS states expenditure will be 10% higher in 2006/07, mainly because of increased costs incurred from new staff recruited to deal with the growing volume of cases, the salary cost of retaining experienced staff in a competitive environment, replacing its telephone system and upgrading its IT systems. But FOS says preliminary discussions with industry representatives have found no support for increasing the case fee, especially in view of the plan to review the structure of the FOS’s funding during 2006/07, so its current proposals in...
