A&L appoints Gillespie as chairman

Alliance & Leicester has appointed Alan Gillespie as its chairman it was announced today.

Gillespie is currently chairman of Ulster Bank Group, a role he has held since 2001, and will take up his new role on 8 September. Current acting chairman Roy Brown will become deputy chairman and senior independent director. He took up the role following the death of Sir Derek Higgs in April.
