The FTSE 100 index shot up by 176.10 points to 3,953.40 by the close, fuelled by further positive reaction to earnings figures from the world's largest company General Electric and gains by technology stocks after analysts forecast increase spending on tech over the next two years. The FTSE 100 gains were felt across the board, with oil, financial services, supermarket, and aerospace and engineering stocks among the winners.
