JO Hambro Investment Managers has recruited an Asian equities broker to launch an absolute return Asian fund under the Waverton brand. Alan Gibbs has not managed funds since leaving Jardine Fleming and Save & Prosper 20 years ago to help set up the nascent Robert Fleming broking business. However, since then he has helped run or set up two London-based Asian equities brokerages. The new fund will invest in Asia ex-Japan and will be available to retail investors in the autumn. Details have yet to emerge but the group has said Gibbs will use a bottom-up stock-picking approach.
