The Dow Jones followed the FTSE 100, climbing strongly after opening, up 95 points (1.1%) to 8,543.
Again like the London index, the big Dow winners were miners and retailers, with Kraft Foods leading the pack early. Kraft was up 3.35% to $26.19, with Coca Cola third highest riser, up 2.25% to $49.07. Yesterday’s biggest loser Caterpillar made the second largest gain, 2.51% to $33.87, with fellow mining company Alcoa also in the top five, up 2.18% to $10.56. The FTSE climbed this afternoon, as the Dow opened, rising 82 points (1.9%) from opening to a day high of 4,337.
