FTSE stays strong on afternoon trading

The FTSE closed at 6363.9p this afternoon after rising 57.7 points, or 0.91%.

Cable and Wireless rose 7.5 points, or 4.5%, to 174.3p. Lonmin rose 121 points, or 3.66%, to 3426c. Anglo American rose 92 points, or 3.27%, to 2908p. BT Group rose nine points, or 2.9%, to 319p. BHP Billiton rose 38 points, or 2.61%, to 1494p. Northern Rock fell 33 points, or 4.91%, to 639p. ITV fell 4.6 points, or 4.14%, to 106.4p. Alliance & Leicester fell 26 points, or 2.7%, to 937.5p.
