Builders lead FTSE following rate cut

The FTSE rose 0.16%, or 10.5 points, to 6565.4c today as last week's interest rate cut led builders up the exchange.

Persimmon rose 4.6%, or 36.5 points, to 830.5p while Taylor Wimpey rose 4.2%, or nine points, to 223.5c. International Power fell 1.64%, or 7.55 points, to 466p while Mitchells and Butler fell 1.63%, or 8.25 points, to 499.25p. The Dow Jones rose 0.65%, or 88.61 points, today to 13714.19c. McDonald’s rose 1.71%, or 1.03 points, to 61.19c as interim results showed same-store sales rose 4.4% from November 2006.
