Homebuilders drag FTSE

The FTSE fell 3.8 points, or 0.07%, this morning to 5780.2p as homebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon dropped.

Taylor Wimpey, which led the losers list, fell 4.4 points, or 2.52%, to 170.5p while Persimmon fell 15.5 points, or 2.19%, to 692.5p. Miner Kazakhmys rose 41 points, or 3.29%, to 1288p while Antofagasta rose 17.5 points, or 2.42%, to 740p. Friends Provident rose 2.3 points, or 1.75%, to 133.5p on news the insurer rebuffed another takeover attempt by US private equity house JC Flowers. The Dow Jones fell 64.87 points, or 0.53%, to 12182.13c as American Express fell 1.47 points, or 3.16%, to 44.98c. JP Morgan Chase fell 1.29 points, or 2.86%, to 43.82c. McDonald’s rose 1.18 points, or 2....
