International Financial Services, the organisation responsible for promoting the UK financial services sector abroad, says its figures for 2001 indicate the supposed downturn in the sector has just not happened.
Instead, IFS says the UK maintained its lead in global banking, and boosted its trade surplus in financial services by £300m to £14.1bn compared to 2000 - easily the largest in the world.
In insurance, derivatives, foreign exchange, and bullion, London also continued to dominate Europe.
London has also captured second spot behind Switzerland as the most popular destination for offshore wealth.
