Norwich Union paid out more than £26.9m in critical illness claims during 2002. Some 63% of all claims came from those diagnosed with cancer and 13% from those having suffered a heart attack. The average payout per claim by Norwich Union was £62,085 and the average age of clients at the claim stage was 40, the company said.
