The FSA has fined DBS Financial Management £100,000 for approving a misleading direct offer advertisement for protected Isas. In June 2001, DBS approved a Protected Isas supplement for distribution with national newspapers. The regulator said the group should have ensured the advertisement presented a balanced view of the risks involved in the investment and would be understood by its likely audience.
