As forecast by many economists, the Monetary Policy Committee last month maintained the Bank of England base rate at 0.5%. With inflation remaining above target yet economic performance mixed, however, commentators are now divided on whether there will be a rate rise later in the year - and perhaps even as early as August. There is also a perception, fuelled by headlines in the mainstream media, that house prices are falling.
