Richard Branson takes partner role on private equity fund

Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson is to become a partner in a private equity fund investing in consumer goods.

According to the Financial Times, the fund is looking to raise $500m and generate returns of 20%. Some 10% of the profits will be donated to women and children's charities.  It will be co-managed by $2bn investment firm Metric Capital and seek investments in luxury goods, leisure and food & drink.  The fund will invest in Europe and the US and the firm is hopeful of targeting large institutional investors such as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) in Saudi Arabia.
