Investors play down hedge fund risks

A MAJORITY of investors believe hedge funds are no more risky than shares, according to an F&C-commissioned survey that also found only 10pc of people believed the investments should be restricted to sophisticated or high net worth investors.

The poll of more than 3,000 people showed 64pc of those who took part believed hedge funds reduced risk, nailing the lie to what was believed to be the common public misconception the funds were high risk. More than half of respondents, 55pc, said there should be direct public access to the funds and a further 35pc believed wider access should be given, but only through a specialist manager.
