Cautious open for FTSE

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index has shed about 3 points to 4,846.50 points in morning trading, paced by Schroders.

The asset management group has shed 19p to 648.50p. The company does not expect to repeat its good performance from its private equity arm in 2004 for this year. Oil firm BP meanwhile, has advanced 7p to 539p, after crude oil for June delivery increased 1.1% to $56 a barrel in New York. Shell Transport and Trading company is also up 3.50p to 475.50p. In Japan the Nikkei 225 Stock Average advanced 0.3% to 11,073.77 at its close early Saturday morning, led by technology firms including Matsushita.
