Follow the money

In the Eurovision Song Contest held last weekend, a cultural event as unique to Europe as Nascar stock-car racing is to the US, and about as pointless, France came second to last. The Netherlands did not even qualify. That outcome was a bad omen for the votes in France and the Netherlands on the European Union constitution.
