The uncertainty over who will replace education secretary Estelle Morris has lifted with the appointment of Labour Party chairman Charles Clarke to take over an increasingly embattled role. The move means that Northern Ireland secretary John Reid moves to the chairman's role, himself being replaced by Northern Ireland minister Paul Murphy. Europe minister Peter Hain is moved up to a cabinet position by becoming secretary of state for the Welsh Office. So far the Treasury and Department of Work and Pensions have remain untouched by the shuffles announced today.
