Aberdeen Asset Managers is the latest company to enter exploratory talks with Allied Irish Bank (AIB) over the acquisition of Govett Investments. The news follows Investment Week's report that New Star was talking to AIB with a view to purchasing Govett, which has struggled to make headway in recent times. Aberdeen has also expressed an interest in acquiring Edinburgh Fund Managers. Govett's largest and best known vehicle is the £582m Govett Strategic Investment trust. In September, an EGM voted in favour of continuing the company rather than winding it up.
