A pensioner who says he does not trust banks lost £80,000 in cash after leaving it in plastic bags on the roof of his car and driving away.
The 68-year-old anonymous retiree had been carrying his pension savings back and forth to work since his guard dog died, and he felt it no longer safe to leave the money under his bed.
After a panicked search in his hometown of Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, the man found only the plastic bags the money had been stored in, but none of the cash, the Daily Mail reports.
The money was the product of the man saving £2,000 every year of his working life.
Essex Police have appealed for the money to be returned, and the man has offered a reward to anyone who finds the money.
