Impax Group, an AIM-listed specialist environmental investment company, and the FTSE Group are launching a new index to cover companies in the environmental sector.
The new FTSE Environmental Opportunities All-Share Index will be comprised of some 450 companies in areas such as: alternative energy, energy efficiency, water treatment, pollution control, waste technologies and resources management.
Companies must demonstrate that a minimum of 20% of their business comes from environmental markets or technologies in order to be included on the new index, Impax said.
Impax notes the area of environmental investment “is now a rapidly developing area of the global economy”.
Earlier this year, Impax and FTSE launched the FTSE ET50 Index, made up of the largest fifty pure play environmental technology companies by market capitalisation worldwide, with an investable market capitalization of $161bn (£81.85bn).IFAonline
