Gary Clarke, manager of the Gartmore European Focus Funds, has announced that he will be leaving the group to join the European equities team at Schroders.
Clarke, who has been at the company for two years, will leave his post on 4 July and have a period of gardening leave before he starts at Schroders in September.
In addition to managing the Gartmore European Focus Fund, which were recently rated 'AA' by S&P and Forsyth Partners, Clarke had also been lead fund manager for all Gartmore's 'Aggressive Alpha' retail and institutional funds in pan and continental Europe.
Head of Research at Hargreaves Lansdown, Mark Dampier said: "My initial reaction to Gary leaving was surprise, he has only been there 18 months and he moved a couple of times recently before that. The last time I spoke to him he said he was looking for a longer tenure as a fund manager, so I was not happy to learn of his departure, it's very frustrating."
Head of the European equities Stephen Jones will take over as lead manager of the Gartmore Sicav Pan European Focus Fund and the Gartmore Sicav Pan European Fund. Tim Callaghan , senior investment manager at the group, will be lead manager of the Gartmore European Focus Fund.
