John Husselbee, fund of funds manager at Henderson Global Investors, has bought positions in the Gartmore UK Growth and M&G UK Growth funds. He says he is taking a small bet on growth finally returning to favour.
Husselbee said Gartmore UK Growth, managed by Jon Thornton and M&G UK Growth, managed by Sam Morse, are heavily growth-oriented funds. Therefore, if growth does return to favour, these stocks will outperform, he says. 'I've been on a quest to find some very strong growth oriented funds. Nowadays, there are not many around as traditional growth managers have changed their styles somewhat to cater for current market conditions. Thornton and Morse have a strong growth emphasis. What we don't want to do is duplicate the value holdings in our portfolio by buying so-called growth funds which really have a value bias,' he said.
Husselbee said each of these new additions represent around 3%-4% of his Henderson Independent Growth fund.
