HBOS subsidiary Clerical Medical says sales in Europe outside the UK were brisk in the first half of its financial year. New premiums jumped 51% to £57.4m from £38.1m in the same period last year. That compares to a fall in sales to the Far East, which dropped to £13.6m from £14.5m last year. Overall new premiums grew by 3% across the firm's European, UK, and Far East markets, to £288.5m from £280.2m last year.
