Which? books is set to publish a guide on 20 June to inform consumers about 'unscrupulous' financial advisers.
The guide entitled "How to be Your own Financial Adviser" was written when research carried out by Which? showed that financial advisers were biased towards endowment mortgages because of higher commissions. It also found that consumers were sometimes encouraged to invest or buy more insurance cover than was necessary.
This edition provides consumers with the information on how to avoid being mis-sold pensions and mortgages. The guide claims to cut out the confusion and sales talk and provide information on how to deal with financial affairs and how to recognise a shark.
Jonquil Lowe, the author of the guide, says: "The guide is to provide confidence to consumers who aren't getting the advice they need, for consumers who go to banks and building societies because they can not afford financial advice."
