Andrew Cawker joins Invesco's UK institutional equities team as a fund manager. Cawker joins the Invesco team from Prudential Portfolio Managers (PPM) where he was a director for five years. Cawker managed UK equity portfolios covering a range of fund types, including the Prudential and Scottish Amicable unitised pension funds. He also has experience in managing segregated pension funds and has been involved in all aspects of the formulation of UK pension fund strategy.
The London International Financial Futures and Operations Exchange (LIFFE) has announced that Peter Friend, managing director of finance & operations, has been appointed as the Exchange's chief operating officer. In his new role, Friend will be responsible for the operations and service relationships of the new technology business, the core exchange business and the support functions of LIFFE
Baring Asset Management has appointed Colin Harte as director of global fixed income within its fixed income specialist investment team. Based in London, Harte will report to Rory MacLeod and will concentrate on global and multi-currency portfolios.
Harte joins Baring Asset Management from Norwich Union where he was a member of the Asset Allocation Committee and investment director & head of international fixed income. Prior to this Harte spent five years at Gartmore Investment Management latterly as director and head of Active Fixed Interest with responsibility for establishing a specialist fixed income business for UK and European pension funds.
The Willis Group has announced the appointment of Joseph J. Plumeri as executive chairman and chief executive officer, effective 15 October, 2000. Having spent 32 years at Citigroup and its predecessor companies, Plumeri has a track record of great accomplishment based on his ability as a leader and motivator of a large sales force in producing results. Plumeri succeeds John Reeve, who is currently in the role and whom will be retiring from the company having completed his contract.
Legal & General Ventures, the private equity arm of Legal & General, has announced five new appointments, expanding their investment team. Brian Phillips has been appointed managing director. Phillips comes from Natwest Equity Partners. Michael Mowlem, Bill Priestley and Joanne Parfrey all join as associate directors.
Mowlem was previously at PPM Ventures where he gained experience on a wide range of projects including acquisitions, disposals and re-financing, while Priestley comes from NM Rothschild where he was head of banking in the Birmingham office. Parfrey was a corporate financial executive with the BOC Group and Elementis.
Lastly, Darren Hart joins as associate director responsible for mezzanine investments. His previous experience was with the Natwest Mezzanine Fund.
