John Muresianu, manager of the top performing Fidelity American Fund - one of just three US focused funds to provide positive returns every year for the past three years - is leaving to spend more time with his family.
The news means Fidelity is robbed of one of its star managers, and although the reason for leaving is believed not to be a smokescreen as in so many other cases, there will be plenty of speculation as to when he might be tempted back into the industry at some point in the future, and if so by whom.
During the five years to March this year, the American Fund produced a return of 262.5%.
Management of the fund is being handed over to Boston-based Fergus Shiel, who says he will keep following Muresianu's bottom-up investment approach.
