John Edwards, currently Managing Director of Clerical Medical has taken over as Chief Executive from Robert Walther, who retired on 31 October after 36 years with the Group.
Edwards. born in 1955, was appointed Chief Executive of Clerical Medical Investment Group in October 2001. He joined Clerical Medical in 1993, was appointed General Manager, Sales and Marketing in 1996 and was appointed to the Board in 1998.
James Crosby, Chief Executive of HBOS commented: "Robert Walther has presided over a period of unprecedented growth at Clerical Medical. He leaves the company financially strong and with a central role in HBOS's long-term savings strategy. John Edwards, who has worked with Robert as Clerical Medical's Marketing and Sales Director and more recently as Managing Director, will continue to accelerate the pace of development at Clerical Medical."
Philip Hodkinson, Chief Executive of the Long Term Savings & Insurance division of HBOS, said: "The long term savings market is vital to the HBOS Group, and central to that is Clerical Medical. John Edwards's appointment at this important time will allow us to deliver further growth and profitability as well as better customer service."
