THE next 12 months will see global bonds being an important source of alpha and diversification, according to Michael Hasenstab, fund manager of the Templeton Global Bond fund.
He said: "A wide variety of attractive opportunities can be found regardless of the stage of the business cycle, because of the wide variety of markets available to invest in, the large number of opportunities in those markets and the variety of environments found in each country." Hasenstab noted that the global economy had performed well against a backdrop of a moderate US growth slowdown and that this had allowed the fund to benefit from exposure to select currencies in rapidly growing countries, particularly in Asia.
