New Star unveils global hedge fund investing in real estate

NEW Star has launched a Real Estate Hedge fund, run by new recruit, Robin White. It will invest in global real estate listed securities, have a pan-European focus and take positions in 30 to 60 holdings, chosen from an investment universe of around 350 securities.

White, who joined the firm in September 2007 from Rock Capital, where he ran the Rock Real Estate Securities fund, will use a long/short strategy to exploit cyclical real estate markets, adapting with the market to capture market movements and pricing inefficiencies. He can use sector swaps, real estate funds and real estate derivatives to achieve his target of generating absolute returns, and can also implement gearing. White expects to maintain gross exposure in excess of 100pc, with the portfolio likely to have net long exposure of around 30pc at launch. He said: “Recent turbulence...
