Savings could become as easy as swiping a debit card at the supermarket if a new service from Sainsbury's Bank finds favour with consumers
The “SaveBack” facility will enable customers at 452 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide to funnel money directly into bank accounts from checkouts. A spokesperson says Sainsbury expects customers to take advantage of the service by rounding up their supermarket bills, which account for about half of all UK shopping expenditure. Thus, a £47 bill might be rounded up to £50, with £3 going to the savings account. This is being termed “impulse saving” as compared with “impulse buying”.
