FTSE ends week on bank holiday high

In London the FTSE 100 Index has closed up 11.5 points to 4,801.7 at its close.

Leading the field were Tate & Lyle up 11.5p, or 2.5%, to 465p after UBS AG boosted its rating on the sugar maker's shares. Mining companies including BHP Billiton and steelmaker Corus Group were among the biggest gainers. BHP, the world's No. 1 miner, rose 15p, or 2.4%, to 639p. Anglo American, the No. 2, gained 31p, or 2.7%, to 1,161p Corus, Britain's biggest steelmaker, climbed 1p, or 2.4%, to 43.25p. Shares in the company had fallen 20% in the two weeks prior to today. But shares in phone-equipment manufacturer Marconi, continued to fall sliding a further 36.5p, or 12%, today to 2...
