NU with-profits plans see first-time rate rise

Norwich Union has substantially raised regular bonus rates for the first time ever on with-profits policies opened over 10 years ago.

Whereas with-profits announcements have become synonymous over the last five years with rate cuts and market value reductions rather than strong evidence of improved investment performance, NU has finally been able to buck the trend and raise bonuses. A mid-year review of maturity payouts and bonus rates applicable from July 1st reveals policyholders with CGNU and Commercial Union Life Assurance Company (CULAC) investment and personal pensions purchase prior to October 1998, as well as conventional endowments, will now see the bonus rates rise further for around 600,000 people.
